Most likely, there is no man or woman in the city of Zlín who hasn’t ever tasted the traditional vanilla-chocolate whipped ice cream, or at least have never heard about the Zlíňanka sweet shop.
Zlíňanka was started up on November 1, 1969. It is interesting that the name “Zlíňanka” was allowed even in the era when the official name of the city was Gottwaldov. Until 1990, Zlíňanka used to be a state enterprise. Next year it became a private company. Between 1969 and 1991, as many of you may remember, Zlíňanka was larger – the original Zlíňanka used to reside within the premises of the present optician’s and the Dino sweet shop.
In 1991 the buildings passed to their original owners; due to different landlords the shop “shrank” only to the area of the present optician’s. The rest of the original space passed to the Dino sweet shop which was established at that time. Although Dino would often be considered identical to Zlíňanka, it has nothing to do with us. Since coming into private ownership, Zlíňanka has been a trademark granted by the Industrial Property Office of the Czech Republic. In 1994 Zlíňanka was awarded the 3rd place for the best ice cream in a statewide contest. A big change came in 2009. In the end of that year, due to long-term disagreements with the landlord, the Zlíňanka owners were forced to leave the original place in the street Třída T. Bati after long 40 years.
However, this was not the end – on May 17, 2010 the sweetshop was re-opened in the street of Zarámí (the PSG building, between the Česká spořitelna and VZP). The place is new, but Zlíňanka itself remains as you know it – the unforgettable whipped ice cream, a wide choice of sundaes (a little known fact is that the ice cream and all the sundaes come from the original recipes of Mrs. Jitka Bařinová, the Zlíňanka owner, who has been working there since its startup in 1969), desserts, boxes of chocolate, gift baskets, etc. In addition, Zlíňanka offers a wide choice of high quality Moravian wines.
Another good news is that, in comparison with the former one, the new place offers more room and a more comfortable sit-down area. The planned outside seating will be a part of the new premises, so you won’t have to cross a busy pedestrian precinct nor you will be disturbed by the traffic on one of the most frequented roads in the city. We believe that you will find your way to our sweet shop on the new address and that you will always like to come back to us.
We are looking forward to your visit!
